Saturday 5th February 2011 selections

This week i'm starting the Championship and Nottingham Forest who host Watford. Earlier in the season these teams played out a 1-1 draw. Both goals coming in the first half of the game. Forest are on a great run and pushing for the second spot in the league. Watford sit in 7th place just outside the playoffs. Watford have drawn and lost their last 2 games whereas Forest have won their last 6 games on the bounce. Both sides suffered in the cup last week so both will want to step up from those defeats. I think this game will go to Forest and allow them to keep up the pressure at the top of the league.
Its 5/6 for a Forest win.

Next up we have Scunthorpe who have a dreadful home record, having only won 1 game at home this season. Hull have won 4 away but havent drawn any. The reverse fixture ended 0-1 to Scunthorpe earlier in the season, with a goal in the 89th minute. I expect this one to be close again and indeed am going for the draw.

Draw 23/10

In League 2 Hereford have fired into form winning their last 6 including a 4-3 win at Lincoln. They once again play Lincoln who themselves have won their last 4. Both sides and next to each other in the league with similar goal difference. I see lots of goals in this one so am going goal crazy and backing both teams to score!

3/4 both to score

Finally in the Premier League Blackpool visit Everton. Blackpool are great away from home with their attacking nature which always suggests there will be goals in their games. these 2 teams drew 2-2 earlier in trhe season so I again go for the goal crazy both teams to score!

3/4 both teams to score

Goos luck with your weekend betting!

  1. Hi Martin. Some good tips there, (I particularly like the Hereford v Lincoln goal crazy bet), but this weekend for my £1 Yankee, I have selected the following fixtures:

Ipswich v Sheffield Utd (home win at 10/11 with Blue Sq)

The Tractor Boys have not beaten United in their past four encounters at Portman Road. I expect this to change on Saturday though, particularly given the poor run of form the Blades find themselves in, having not won in eight games since 18th December 2010. By comparison, Ipswich had a good away win on Tuesday night and have suddenly come to life following Paul Jewell’s appointment, so I expect another home victory.

Carlisle v Walsall (home win at 8/11)

Curiously, three of the last seven games in this fixture have ended 2-1 to the home side, with the other four resulting in a 1-1 draw – that leaves Carlisle undefeated at home against the Saddlers since the 1992/93 season and they have only lost one of their last six at home. The odds would suggest that they should hold the upper hand once again, particularly given that Walsall have only won once in their last nine games, so home win for me.

    Bury v Burton Albion (5/6)

Bury have a 100% record at home against Burton and soundly beat them 3-0 when they last played at Gigg Lane. Ok, so this was the only time they have played them at home in their history, but nevertheless they are currently in fine goal scoring form after a good away win at relative-neighbours Macclesfield on Tuesday. Ryan Lowe is banging in the goals at the moment and he may well profit again against Burton, who have only had seven different goalscorers in their team all season. They can’t score away and have only won once on their travels all season, so I’m going for a home win again.

    Hereford v Lincoln (5/4)

This basement battle will be a fascinating encounter, with goals guaranteed if recent games are anything to go by. The teams have shared fifteen goals in their last three match-ups, with Hereford winning the most recent fixture 4-3. Both teams have picked up a little bit of form recently and although a draw might be the favoured result here, I am sticking my neck out and going for Hereford to improve their home form.

Potential winnings this week from a £1 Yankee pay £64.34, so fingers crossed.
